Chania is a beautiful city in western Crete. It is the second largest city of the island, after Heraklion, and the capital of Chania Prefecture.

The stretches of vast coastlines with sandy beaches, the mystic mountains, the innumerable gorges, caves and the lush greenery of the inland make Chania a place of true beauty indeed. The natural beauty, romantic vibe of the town and excellent climate make the area extremely popular in summer.

Chania boasts of a beautiful and well preserved natural zone with various flora and fauna variety. The city advanced economically and architecturally mostly by the Venetians. The Old Town of Chania, with buildings from the Venetian and the Turkish Era, form today a romantic area to walk around. On your way, apart from old houses, you will also find many lovely churches and museums that depict the history and culture of the whole island.

The most romantic corner of Chania town is certainly its port with small fishing boats moored along the marinas, the lighthouse on one side, which has become the trademark of the town over the years, and the open sea beyond you. The waterfront of Chania is a lovely area for walking in the evening. Many cafeterias and restaurants line the waterfront.

Apart from Chania, another popular resort of the prefecture is Kissamos. On the way from Chania town of Kissamos, you will find the most beautiful beaches of the area, such as Maleme, Germaniko Pouli, and Platanias. Famous beaches are also found on the southern side of Chania Prefecture, such as Hora Sfakion and Paleochora.

Apart from its beautiful landscape, Chania and all Crete is particularly famous for its food. Scientists say that the Cretan diet is the healthiest diet in the world and helps to confront many problems. Moreover, the ingredients used by the locals are all produced in Crete, so they are of high quality.

Normal Ferries:
Chania is only connected to the port of Piraeus. The trip is pretty quick, as it can be reached in about 5 hours. Others vessels, not so quick, do this itinerary in about 8 hours.

Moreover, ferries leave from the port of Kastelli-Kisamos, about 40 km from the town of Chania, and go to Kythira island, Antikythira island and Gythio town, Peloponnese.
