After Mykonos, Ios is the second Greek destination that gets more popular with young people. The vivid nightlife of Ios and the endless beach parties attract thousands of young and older visitors every summer.
Frequently connected with ferries to Piraeus and other islands, Ios is found between Naxos and Santorini, on the southern side of the Cyclades. Known as the island of endless parties, Ios has grown over the years as a fun place to be. Beach bars, clubs that stay open all night long and cafeterias with wonderful views to the sea are seen all over the island.
Apart from endless beach parties, Ios is also known for its amazing beaches with fine sand, crystal waters and water sports clubs. Koumbara, Mylopotas, Manganari and Papa are the most famous and popular beaches on the island. Every summer, thousands of visitors choose these beaches to swim in the clean water and relax under the hot sun.
The capital of the island in Chora, built on the slopes of a rocky mountain with nice views to the sea and the surrounding coasts. Narrow paths cross the village and small houses with beautiful garden can be seen in every corner. On the highest spot of the island, there stands a beautiful white church with blue dome and a tall palm tree next to it: this is the church of Panagia Gremiotissa, the protector of the island. On its name day, on August 15th, a great festival is held on Ios that includes a Holy Mass, local food and dancing by traditional dance groups.
Although there aren’t many sites to see on Ios, the island is perfect to relax and feel the true Cycladic vibe. Very well developed in tourism facilities, Ios will offer you comfortable and nice vacations under the Greek hot sun.
Normal Ferries:
Ios is linked to the port of Piraeus by normal ferry in 7 h. It is also connected by normal ferry to Santorini (1 h), Anafi (5 and 1/2 h), Folegandros (1 and 1/2 h), Milos (4 h), Kimolos (5 h), Naxos (3 h), Kythnos (9 h), Paros (4 and 1/2 h), Serifos (7 h), Sifnos (6 h) and Sikinos (30 min). In summer, when the number of the passengers is bigger, itineraries are more frequent.
