General Information about Patra, Greece
Patra (or Patras) is the third largest town in Greece and one of the busiest ports of the country. The town developed a lot in the 19th century, when many Neoclassical buildings and ample squares were constructed, such as the Square of King George I and Psila Alonia Square. A wonderful region for strolling is the beach promenade of Patra close to the port, with many cafes, bars and restaurants along the walkway.
The port of Patra is very busy as it serves ferries to the Ionian islands and Italy. The modern town bursts with life and has nice sightseeing, including the Medieval Castle of Patra built on top of a hill above the town, the Roman Odeon and few interesting churches. In close distance to Patra, there are many beaches and also an important tourist resort is Rio.

The port of Patras serves ferries to Italy. The most popular routes are from Patra to Ancona and from Patra to Brindizi. The trip from Patra to Bari is the shortest, while the trip from Patra to Venice is the longest.
