Skyros Ferries: Online booking for Skyros Ferry Tickets

This is the quietest island of the Sporades complex. After busy Skiathos and Skopelos and less popular Alonissos, Skyros is the fourth island of Sporades, right opposite Evia island, to which it is connected by ferry.

Skyros is known for its isolate beaches and quiet islands. Even in high season, Skyros receives fewer tourists than the other three Sporades islands, so it is perfect if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

Skyros Town, the capital of the island, is built amphitheatrically around a bay and is dominated by a Venetian Castle, one of the few sites to see on Skyros. This Castle, which has a simple and strong architecture, was originally built by the Byzantines and then enforced by the Venetians, who conquered the island. Inside the walls of the castle, there is the church of Saint Georgios, with notable frescoes. Skyros Town is the only real village on the island, the other villages are much smaller and actually constitute fishing hamlets.

Beaches on Skyros are many but most of them are unorganized and pretty isolate. The onl organized beach is Molos, a couple of km from the capital. Actually, Molos and Skyros Town are where most tourist amenities are found. The rest of the beaches are difficult as public means of transport are few on the island. A private means is necessary and a lot of attention must be paid, as roads can get track sometimes. Nice beaches on Skyros are Agios Fokas, Atsitsa and Pefkos, with crystal waters and surrounded by a lot of greenery. The beaches of Achili and Acherounes are easier to go, but their landscape is more barren.

Note also that Skyros is also famous for its unique ponies, a special horse breed that can be found only there. These ponies grow up on Skyros since the ancient times and it is said that even Alexander the Great was using them in his expeditions because they were very strong. They are shorter than the normal horses and small bodied. Such ponies can be seen today in various farms on the island and at the Skyrian Pony Centre on the northern side of the island.

Normal ferries :
Skyros island cannot be accessed directly from the port of Piraeus. The ferry that goes to Skyros leaves from Kymi, a small town on the eastern side of Evoia, Central Greece. Kymi is about 3 hours by bus from Athens. The ferry trip from Kymi to Skyros takes about 2 hours and a half. Itineraries are becoming more frequent in summer.
