Company policy
Introduction:
Dodekasisos Seaways was founded in 1999 by George and Yiannis Spanos. The original aim of the company was to connect the larger islands of the Dodecanese, in particular Rhodes, Leros, Kos and Patmos, to Piraeus, the main port of Greece. However, the company soon understood the necessity of the other smaller and less populated Dodecanese islands for comfortable and safe transportation.
In view of this social need, the company in 2000 its first speed boat "Dodekanisos Express" and added more destinations to its route. In 2005, Dodekanisos Seaways built its second speed boat, "Dodekanisos Pride", to offer more qualitative services to the permanent residents of the islands and its visitors.
Although the original aim of the company hasn't been achieved yet, as the ferries do not travel to Piraeus, a great social mission has been accomplished: people can travel from one Dodecanese island to the other and back in a single day. Thus, even the residents of the most isolated Dodecanese islands, such as Nisyros, Kastelorizo and Halki, can get connected to the other bigger islands or can receive tourists that will support their economy.
All over its history, Dodekanisos Seaways makes sure that its vessels are safe for the passengers, the crew is well trained and its ships do not pollute the sea environment. For its social and environmental policy, Dodekanisos Seaways has received many awards by the church of Rhodes, the Prefecture of the Dodecanese and the European Organization of Media and Programmes.
