About Gythio
Gythio is a lovely mainland town in the southern side of Peloponnese. In the antiquity, this was the port of ancient Sparta and according to the myth the ship that carried Prince Paris and Helen of Troy departed from there.
This beautiful town has a long port promenade lined up with delicious fish taverns. The close beach of Mavrovouni is famous for its long sandy shore and the crystal waters. Gythio is a convenient base for excursions in southern Peloponnese, only a short drive from beautiful places like Diros Caves, Monemvasia, Mystras and Kalamata.
