About Nisyros

The volcano of Nisyros is located close to the village of Nikia. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, because a lot of walking is required. Do not miss a stroll around Nikia to get a breathtaking view of the volcano.

The capital and main port of Nisyros is Mandraki, a picturesque place with stone houses and lovely chapels that stand on top of a hill. Walk up and down the beach promenade of Mandraki and visit the Byzantine Castle above the village.

There are both sandy and pebbles beaches in Nisyros. They are not much organized but offer a relaxing atmosphere, away from daily noise and routine. Nisyros can also be visited as a daily excursion from Kos.
