Golden Star Ferries

The ferry company Golden Star Ferries has its base in the port of Rafina, which is the second busiest port of Attica that is also situated closest to the airport of Athens, Eleftherios Venizelos. With its large greek ferry, Superferry II, it serves daily trips from Rafina to the Cyclades islands of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos. With all modern facilities, Superferry II offers a comfortable and quick trip to travelers.

Cancellation policy

If the cancellation is made for August Easter break and Holy Spirit break, the following terms apply:
- 14 days before the departure, the tickets are fully refunded or turned to open-date tickets or they are changed to another day.
- From 14 days up to 12 hours before departure: 50% refund or change to open date ticket.
- From 12 hours before departure to upon departure time: the tickets can not be cancelled or turned to open date tickets.
- After the departure of the ship, the tickets can not be refunded or turned to open date tickets.

During Low Season (all the other dates, except the high-season dates), the following terms apply:
- From 14 days to 7 days before departure: the tickets are 75% refunded or alternatively they are turned to open date tickets.
- From 6 days up to 12 hours before departure: 50% refund or change to open date ticket.
- From 12 hours before departure to upon departure time: the tickets can not be cancelled or turned to open date tickets.
* After the ferry departure, the tickets can not be cancelled or turned to open date tickets.

Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, the following cancellation policy applies for all tickets that have been issued before the 01-06-2020.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTICE:
Altered cancellation policy of Golden Star ferries due to Covid-19 Pandemic.
Cancellation is not possible.
You can convert your tickets into Open date tickets / Credit Voucher to use until the 31st of December 2022.
In case you have not used your Open date tickets / Credit Voucher within this 18 months period, you will be entitled to a full refund of the tickets’ value.
 

Passengers Tickets Conditions

Approved by the Hellenic Ministry of Mercantile Marine
The ticket is issued in the passengers name, is personal and non-transferable. It is valid only for the class and the trip for which it was issued.
The fare does not include catering.
Passengers should be at the embarkation area of the ship one (1) hour before departure. If the passenger is not in time for sailing, he/she is not entitled to a refund of the fare. 
Children up to 4 years old travel free of charge and are not entitled to bed, while children over 4 and up to 10 years old pay a reduced fare and are entitled to bed.
The bearer of a full ticket is allowed to carry free of charge luggage up to 40 kilos or 1 cubic meter.
In case of loss of the ticket, it will not be replaced nor the fare will be refunded. The shipping company is not responsible for any damage or loss of the passengers luggage that is under the personal care of him/her during the trip.
Jewellery, money and valuable objects may be delivered to the ships accounting office for safekeeping.
The shipping company will not be responsible for any delay in sailing, deviation and not keeping normal route, due to bad weather conditions or orders of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine or the Harbor Authorities or due to force major.
It is forbidden to the passengers to carry explosives, inflammable, incendiary and dangerous in general materials.
The passengers are responsible for the observance of the Harbor, Sanitary and Custom regulations. The passengers should comply with the captains and the crew orders regarding the maintenance of order and the safety of the ship.
The passenger should address any complaint during the trip to the ships captain or first mate and after the arrival, to the shipping company or to the Harbor Authorities.
If for any reason the travel is cancelled due to the ships responsibility, the fare is refunded without any further obligation of the shipping company towards the passenger.
The shipping company has the right, after approval of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, to replace the vessel for which the ticket was issued with another vessel.

Vehicle Transport Receipt Conditions

Approved by the Hellenic Ministry of Mercantile Marine
The drivers are obligated to load and unload their vehicle.
The vehicles should be at the waiting for shipment area one (1) hour before departure and in any case on the time prescribed by the Port Regulation in force.
The driver is not entitled to refund of the fare if he is not in time for sailing, while if he states before sailing his intention not to ship his vehicle, he is entitled to a refund of half of the fare.
In case of loss of vehicle transport receipt, the fare is not refunded.
The vehicles passengers have to get out of them before their shipment aboard.
The passengers should carry with them objects that they need during the travel. After sailing the entrance to the vehicle station is forbidden.
The transportation of explosives, incendiary and dangerous in general materials is forbidden. The priority order is determined by the Port Regulations of each Harbor Authorities, where the vehicles are shipped.

    I will recommend to book Greece internal ferry with this company. Their service are reliable and Excellent.

    Highly impressed by both voyages with Golden Star Ferries i.e. Super Ferry 2 from Rafina to Paros and then Super Runner from Naxos to Rafina. 1) Boarding, directions and luggage storage excellent; 2) Maintenance and cleanliness of vessels excellent; 3) Allocation of seating (Super Runner) and travel comfort excellent; 4) Vessel organisation and safety systems excellent; 5) Scheduling of service excellent.

    The trip went well despite the delay; In Tinos, however, the boat filled up and people took up any place and there were several altercations between people without much follow-up by the staff. The toilets were dirty and there was only one of them for women. On arrival, it was the hustle and no one controlled the people to tell them where to go for the exit.

    Seemed very disorganized. It was hours late. We almost missed our shuttle back to the hotel. It was supposed to be an express and it was not. And it was so nauseating and limited seating only towards the back of the ship. Was not a smooth ride and over an hr late to the destination.

  • Comfrot Depends on vessel

    My trip was from Crete, Heraklio > Santorini (Thira) and back with company: Golden Star Ferries / Vessel: Superferry. Way to Santorini was okay, no dalays, comfort vessel, very kind staff, TV and socket for phone change if you need it. On the way back there was 15 minutes delay and it was very cold at the boat. I really tried to find more or less warm place, but it was very cold due to very strong air conditioning equipment.

    I am very shocked about what happened for my return from vacation! Ferry canceled, they warn you at the last moment, I had to take the next ferry, which made me miss my plane! Without speaking that nobody helps you, not even the agency! By the way it was necessary to buy a very expensive ticket of plane to return and spend 24 hours later in the airport. I would like to be reimbursed for this ticket, it would be a minimum!

  • Disappointment

    We where informed that the ferry from Amorgos to Mykonos had mechanical problems and that's why our transport was totally canceled only a week before. This change costed us a last minute reservation in mykonos and a lost day of prepaid accommodation and car in amorgos. The company didn't have any intention of refunding us for anything, even for the cancelled ferry route we had to make a request in our respective travel agency. I wouldn't trust them again, more trouble than convenience. They have, maybe, the highest ferry prices in Greece for a very medium service.

    Golden star ferries were very efficient. Easy to book. Very fast getting people on and off the ferry. On the ferry the food prices were reasonable.

    Me and my friends booked ferries from Rafina to Tinos and then back. The first one left the port one hour later than it supposed to. It was annoying but acceptable as we didnt need to be in a rush. But the second one from Tinos to Rafina came 2 HOURS later and I missed my flight from Athens home. Of course I didnt hear any excuses, only thing I ve heard was : "It is normal in Greece". No guys, it is not normal, people should trust your service when planning holidays. THIS would be normal.

    Everything is fine except that the ferrying from Tinos to Mykonos instead of Rafina departed at about the same time. Which is confusing. So I had to buy a plane ticket from Mykonos when I had to leave Athens.
    It would be best to specify the destination before boarding rather than once the ferries leave the ship and it is too late to turn around.

    I was pleased with 2/3 of my ferry rides. The ferry I took from Rafina to Mykonos was with Golden Star Ferries. I was very unhappy with this ferry. It did not allow passengers to be outside on the deck of the boat. It felt like an airplane with seats squished together, and the snacks aboard were expensive. The other two ferry companies (Sea Jets and Blue Star Ferries) used were delightful.

    We took a Golden Ferry II from Santorini to Heraklion. The voyage should take 3:15. Actually, it took 4:25. Nobody announced any information about it. Instead of 10:20 pm we arrived at 00:20 pm. They should provide a real-time to let people plan their journey. But who cares?! I would not recommend this company at all.

  • Cancelled ferries

    We booked using this site and no fault of their own twice our ferries were cancelled. Once we had to pay for a more expensive boat at the port and once they change us to a later ferry on a much older boat that rocked the whole time and took double the time to get to our destination. I understand that this is not the booking companies fault but no communication from the ferry companies were given to us until we arrived at the port where we had to join long lines in the hot heat to find a solution. Very stressful and unpleasant on vacation.

    Traveling for Mykonos to Rafina with 2 stops on the way, in the last one the ferry delayed 2 hours due to overbooking car spaces. Some people for absolutely no reason got left outside, others lost their planes, everyone got delayed. They even had the audacity to put the blame on the drivers and parking assistants for "missmanaging the available space". People lost it as soon as they heard that since most locals that take this Sunday trip often said that this happens almost every time. I higly advise against this company if another alternative is available.

    Extremely unfriendly staff who repeatedly asked me in a rude way to leave areas of the ferry that were freely accessible and not marked as a special area. When I just wanted to take a quick look at the map of the café, I was instructed in a degrading way to leave the "Business Class area" immediately, without the info where I might get something to drink. Nice, courteous approach looks different. In addition, noisy construction work while traveling. Next time another ferry company.

    We had a ferry trip from Mykonos to Athens that was scheduled the night before out flight back to USA. We downloaded our boarding passes, went to the port but the Ferry wasn't there! We ended up missing our flights home and had to buy new tickets for the following day $1000 each ($3000 total) We were told that Golden Star Ferries would reimburse us since we weren't notified in advance of the cancellation but they will not respond to any emails or letters from my lawyer. My last ditch effort is to leave a bad review in hopes that someone in power gets in contact with me...

This has already been refunded to you with the replacement tickets you received at Sea and Sky travel in Mykonos as Golden Star ferries has informed us.

    Below are the according terms and conditions of Ferriesingreece.com that you accepted:

    Golden Star ferries informed us also that on the 27th of August they informed all the passengers affected by this cancellation via sms. As per the check proceeded, this number unfortunately was wrong so this is obviously the reason that you did not receive the notification. The mobile number that you had provided when making the booking is the one that the ferry company has access to via the central booking system. You can check the mobile number you provided on your booking confirmation email.

  • I traveled with the SupperRunner to Ios and back and I was pleased with the accommodations and the staff but the trip was about 1 1/2 to 2 hours longer with no real reason like weather or other delays and that can be a problem especially when you arrive really late (11pm) in Rafina and have to drive to Athens (Chalandri) to meet with the AirBnb apartment owners to get the keys and find something to eat. Other than that my experience was good and I will definitely book my island travels with them again.
