Lefkada Ferry

Greek Tourism Awards - Silver Award

Below, you will find information about how to get to Lefkada by ferry, where to buy your tickets, the island and its ports, the best things to do there, and many photos.

Lefkada is a member of the Ionian Islands and the only island connected to the mainland. It is a highly popular destination, known for its stunning landscapes and gorgeous beaches that have given it the title “The Caribbean of Greece”.

HOW TO TRAVEL THERE

A ferry docked at one of Lefkada's ports

Lefkada does not have an airport, but its visitors are served by the Aktion Airport in Preveza, located about 22 km outside Lefkada Town. The distance between the two by car is 20-30 minutes. Aktion Airport does not receive flights from Athens or Thessaloniki but from other regions of Greece, including Corfu and Kefalonia, as well as many European cities during the summer.
Another way to travel to Lefkada is the ferry. That is the most cost-effective option for reaching the island, but remember that ferry connections with other islands are limited.

Ferry Connections

The two main ports of Lefkada, Nydri and Vassiliki, operate local ferry routes to the nearby islands of Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaki, Corfu, Paxi and Meganisi. There are no ferry connections to Athens, Thessaloniki, or other mainland ports. To avoid spending too much time underway, one can also fly to the international airport of Zakynthos, or Kefalonia and take the ferry from there.

What types of ferries travel there?

A conventional ferry and a high-speed/catamaran vessel operate routes to/from Lefkada. The Ionion Pelagos Company owns the conventional ferry, while the high-speed one belongs to Lefkada Palace.
Note: High-speed ferries are smaller and, therefore, affected by challenging weather conditions. Depending on the weather, delays may occur.
